The Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital invite applications for a Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon position. Candidates seeking an academic career in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor are encouraged to apply. Available tracks for Assistant or Associate Professor are Tenure or Academic. Rank and Track will be determined according to the qualifications and interest of the candidate.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of dedicated pediatric cardiac surgery experience and an interest in developing a clinical and academic career specializing in neonatal and infant cardiac surgery, pediatric heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices, and adult congenital cardiac surgery. Responsibilities include delivering clinical excellence and providing exemplary patient and family experiences. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to a collaborative work culture and provide innovative care through research, clinical studies and trials.
In addition, this position is expected to participate in or lead related research, teach and train medical students and residents, and participate in activities and initiatives to support the goals, mission, and values of the Pediatric Cardiovascular Division, Department of Surgery, and University of Minnesota.
This position is responsible for delivering excellent clinical care and an exemplary patient and family experience within a fast paced and collaborative environment. Specific clinical duties include but are not limited to:
Pre and post-operative care
Mechanical circulatory support/Transplantation
Routine care conferences
Successful completion of a certified cardiothoracic surgical training program and/or pediatric cardiac fellowship
Minnesota medical licensure or the ability to complete all requirements necessary for medical licensure in Minnesota
Credentialed at University of Minnesota Medical Center(UMMC) and University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital (UMMCH) or ability to become credentialed at UMMC and UMMCH
Strong interest and commitment to scholarly work
BC/BE of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or equivalent
Certification (or eligibility) in the Subspecialty Congenital Heart Surgery
Independently funded research portfolio
