The University of Washington is currently recruiting for a full-time comprehensive ophthalmologist. This position will be based primarily at the University of Washington Medical Center but may include practice at other affiliate sites which include Harborview Medical Center and the Veteran's Administration Puget Sound Healthcare System locations. The proposed start date is spring/summer 2019.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in academic ophthalmology with particular emphasis on teaching of residents and fellows. Contributions to scholarship in the field are expected and protected time for academic endeavors will be provided. This position is a 12-month service period appointment without tenure.
Responsibilities include: clinical care, resident and fellow training including surgical training, and teaching of medical students. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to scholarship in ophthalmology. Candidates will be expected to provide medical care, including treatment of consult and emergency patients and surgery at the UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center and their affiliated hospitals, which include Northwest Hospital and the VA.
This appointment will be made at rank commensurate with qualifications Assistant, Associate or full Professor. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered.
Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent). Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licenses Exam (USMLE) or equivalents as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
