The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
SCCA is seeking an acupuncturist to serve within its Integrative Medicine clinical program. This position would be split between direct patient care (60%) and administrative/program development (40%) with an eventual increase in direct patient care and decrease in administrative/program development as required by the Integrative Medicine Program needs.
As a licensed Acupuncturist, you will provide intensive symptom and side effect management as a member of a multidisciplinary care team in SCCA's outpatient clinic. This role will collaborate closely with a core team that includes the Integrative Medicine Medical Director, nurse practitioners, massage therapists, yoga therapists, nutritionists, social workers, physical therapists, psychiatry, pain management and palliative care clinics, and clinical researchers. This position will report to clinical operations within SCCA, and work in partnership with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's Public Health Sciences and Clinical Research Divisions.
This role requires both highly-developed clinical skills and program development ingenuity as SCCA launches acupuncture services across a diverse oncology population. The Acupuncturist will also serve the Integrative Medicine program in implementing research protocols in order to inform the growing evidence-base for the use of integrative therapies in oncology care.
The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance was incorporated in 1998 as a separate, jointly governed non-profit that included the cancer programs of three partners. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a cancer treatment center that unites doctors from Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, University of Washington Medical Center, and Seattle Children’s. The purpose of this organization is to provide state-of the-art patient and family centered care; support the conduct of cancer clinical research and education; enhance access to improved cancer interventions; and advance the standard of cancer care regionally and beyond. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Northwest, and according to the National Cancer Data Base, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients in general have better survival rates than patients treated at other cancer treatment centers.
