The University of Washington Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Psychiatric Services. This full-time position will be filled at the Associate Professor without tenure or Professor without tenure level (commensurate with experience and qualifications) and would hold a senior leadership role at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) and Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences (Department). Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences have an annual service period of 12 months.
This position provides oversight of psychiatric clinical services and staffing for Department faculty based at UWMC, including emergency services, inpatient care, hospital and community-based consultation programs, outpatient clinical care, and telepsychiatry. This position represents the UWMC psychiatry service at the Medical Staff Advisory Committee and the Department's Executive Council. This position also will be a critical member of the department clinical leadership structure and will have a leadership role in the upcoming consolidation of UWMC, Montlake and Northwest campuses. This position reports to the Department Chair. Duties include but are not limited to:
Representing UWMC Psychiatric Services at monthly UWMC Medical Staff Advisory Committee meetings
Representing UWMC Psychiatric Services and academic faculty activities at quarterly Department Executive Council and Quarterly Behavioral Strategic Plan meetings
Supervising and supporting clinical unit chiefs of hospital-based, outpatient clinic, emergency, telepsychiatry and community-based psychiatric services associated with UWMC
Participating with the Chair in recruitment and credentialing of clinically active Department faculty based at UWMC
Partnering with Chair, Director and Clinical Manager to oversee clinical performance reviews and monitor clinical benchmarks
Monitoring compliance requirements for clinically active faculty at UWMC
Conducting annual academic performance reviews of UWMC based faculty as representative of the Chair
Working closely with Chair and director on strategic initiatives
Providing mentorship to junior faculty and participation in faculty recruitment activities
Preparing for and chairing monthly meetings of the UWMC Department faculty and Clinical Case Conferences
Performing other clinical or academic duties as assigned by the Department Chair
Defining and delineating clinical responsibilities of clinically active faculty.
Responsible for continuous assessment and quality of care activities of the service and clinically active faculty
Participating in administration of the department through collaboration with nursing service and other interdisciplinary services and hospital administration in matters affecting patient care.
All UW faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
We anticipate the candidate hired into this position to start in April of 2019.
Candidates must hold an MD (or foreign equivalent), board certification in Psychiatry, and be licensed or license eligible in Washington State. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent qualifications in clinical care and leadership.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
