To ensure that the nursing laboratory has required equipment, supplies, and contracts to meet faculty and student needs for objectives and content for courses that use the nursing laboratory. Coordinate a laboratory schedule for the nursing department, and teach/remediate students as needed. Collaborate with faculty on skills laboratory activities and with the simulation laboratory staff at both Chalon and Doheny campuses on simulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Projects, orders, and maintains equipment and supplies needed from vendors using faculty current syllabi for equipment that will be required in skills laboratory.
Develops and maintains relationships with vendors who supply equipment to meet the standards of the nursing community.
Receives, reviews, and approves all invoices from vendors.
Frequent communication with faculty to upgrade contents of student nursing bags and to discuss new equipment/technologies that can be incorporated into their curriculum.
Trains and assists faculty in use of new equipment to ensure a safe skills laboratory environment using evidenced-based practice and measures current in nursing community.
Maintains orderly workspace and organization of supply storage areas.
Coordinates and maintains an online schedule of nursing skills laboratory courses.
Serves as a resource for faculty to facilitate the nursing skills laboratory for use in a specialty.
Conducts Open Lab Sessions for all Chalon nursing students to practice any skill of their choosing in partnership with RN-licensed faculty.
Supports Skills Day, setting up stations with faculty guidance.
Supports faculty as they observe, evaluate, and identify needs for nursing skills laboratory days to enhance student learning. Partners with faculty to implement the skill sessions.
Participates in the simulation laboratory development, implementation, and delivery of the Simulation Laboratory Program.
Informs simulation directors of special laboratory needs and/or requests.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Be willing to work days, evenings, and weekends.
Attend department meetings as required or requested.
Participate in committee work of the department as requested.
Must have comprehensive knowledge of nursing skills needed for various courses in a BSN curriculum; be able to demonstrate proper technique and understand purpose and safety of each skill.
Be knowledgeable about evidenced-base practice, equipment, and supplies to be utilized in the Nursing Skills Laboratory for student learning that mirror common professional practice.
Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Abilities and Skills:
Must be organized, able to communicate well verbally, and problem-solve efficiently.
Hold a positive regard for student learning.
Associate degree required in relevant field (RN, LVN, A/EMT or similar); Baccalaureate or higher degree in relevant field (BSN) preferred.
Has worked at least two years, full-time within the past five years as a RN, LVN, A/EMT or in a similar licensed field in a medical-surgical setting or similar work environment.
Experience in a learning environment is preferred.
Work Location: Both Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles) and Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)
