Job SummaryUnder general supervision performs specialized intraoperative neurophysiologic procedures such as somatosensory and motor evoked potentials, free-running and triggered electromyogenic responses of cranial, spinal and peripheral nerves, and other complex procedures pertaining to the nervous system. Responsible for collecting and analyzing real-time data in the operating room. Effectively communicate technical interpretation of data and relate findings to physicians and/or attending neurophysiologist. Develops and standardizes procedures for departmental use. Trains END technologists, students, and other personnel as needed. Provides work direction to others. May participate in clinical investigative or research activities. Performs scheduling and other clerical duties. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality (CQI) improvements activities. Verifies identity of patient by operating room procedure
Obtains patient's medical history and relevant information including diagnosis, planned procedure and demographics; documents patient information on procedure and database.
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, neonate through geriatric population.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Communicates promptly and appropriately with medical staff regarding care and safety of the patient.
Practices infection control methods and complies with departmental institutional guidelines for handling infectious and hazardous materials.
Cleans up patient thoroughly at the end of each procedure.Performing the Procedure and Acquiring Data
In a timely manner, accurately and securely applies needle electrodes using standardized electrode placement systems and multiple electrode application techniques as needed
Measures electrode impedances during the setup and as needed during the procedure
Records neurophysiologic activity using departmental montages and protocols and following published guidelines
Documents recording parameters, technical and operative observations on the recording as indicated
Recognizes and identifies artifacts from various sources; troubleshoots and eliminates or monitors artifacts
Implements alternative methods or adjusts parameters to obtain optimal recording as needed
Meets other nationally published specific competencies related to the procedure or modality being performed, for example, standards published by ACNS, ASNM, and ASET among others
Develops new procedures appropriate for departmental use and standardizes these proceduresUse and Maintenance of Equipment
Proficient in the use of computerized and other equipment in performing neurophysiologic procedures
Troubleshoots equipment problems; initiates repair and takes steps to resolve problems
Keeps equipment clean and in proper working order at all times. Cleans and disinfects appropriately after use
Verifies that equipment meets current preventative maintenance schedule and notifies supervisor or clinical engineering of PM date has expired
Operates equipment safely and ensures electrical safety of patient and staff at all times
Ensures adequate network connection intraoperatively and works with ITS to troubleshoot connectivity issues.Data Analysis and Reporting
Analyzes and monitors data in real-time and relates technical interpretation of data to physicians and neurophysiologist.
Completes required documentation and worksheets for each procedure per established protocol.
Documents surgical monitoring events and any unusual findings or circumstances and provides this information promptly to the attending neurophysiologist or physician
Updates patient database accordingly.

Provides transit between hospital sites as assigned and provides adequate time for procedure setup
Ensures adequate transit options for inclement weather for timely arrival of scheduled shift or on-call proceduresREQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of an Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist training program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation AND one year of experience in a laboratory performing clinical electroneurodiagnostic testsORequivalent education/experience.DESIRED:
2 years of experience in intraoperative neurophysiology or a combination of graduation from an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program and intraoperative neurophysiology experience
Qualified applicants without CNIM have two years to complete certification upon date of hire
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned
Flexible work schedules are required due to the nature of the position. Applicant must be able to work 10+ hour shifts CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
