Bay Laurel Catering is the University's premier, full-service caterer for large special events and for smaller meetings and groups, providing services for over 4,500 offsite events annually. In this role, you will supervise two full time staff, and up to 4 student staff, and be responsible for maintaining sales goals and ensuring Bay Laurel Catering is well represented to new customers, while maintaining the strong relationships that have already been made with our campus partners as well as looking to grow the catering business in our new Willow Hall catering facility.Key Responsibilities:LeadershipOversee the day-to-day operations of catering sales staff. Maintain team related revenue goals. Target group/catering accounts, markets, or segments with heavy emphasis on proactive solicitation and account saturation.Conduct campus site-visits with clients and prospective clients, including arranging planning meetings with representatives of other campus facilities as necessary.Operations and Customer ServiceResponsible for driving customer/guest loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer/guest experience, that will drive sales growth.Serve as a key departmental resource and contact for prospective catering and conference customers. Anticipate customer needs and facilitate acquisition of additional resources and services. Meet with customers on and off campus; be available to accommodate the customer's schedule.Attend events to ensure services provided comply with event contract.Oversee catering services for conferences ranging in size from 10-2000 guests.Prepare and record Banquet Event Orders (BEO) using Delphi.Fiscal ManagementResponsible for proactively soliciting and managing group/catering related opportunities with significant revenue potential. Actively up-sell each business opportunity to maximize revenue opportunity. Negotiate with clients on catering services.Process billing of events and collection of payments via budgets, checks and/or credit card payments.Prepare proposals to bid on potential catered events and wedding receptions. Culinary Focus and ResultsCoordinate alcohol service based on Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) and UW Dining guidelines.SupervisionInterview and select staff, and ensure staff are on-boarded to the work unit and attend required HFS and UW required training. Supervise the work completed by direct reports, ensuring appropriate productivity, quality, customer service and adherence to UW and departmental policies and procedures. Provide guidance to direct reports on requirements and/or opportunities for learning and professional development. Engage when necessary in performance management of employees within the organization. Prepare and conduct ongoing and timely performance appraisals for all employees, providing proper performance-based feedback. This position will supervise 2 full-time staff, up to 4 student staff.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in hospitality, business administration or related field.Minimum of one year of management experience in catering sales. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.Desired Qualifications:Experience with NewMarket's Delphi system, or equivalent banquet order management software.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Project.
