Position Summary: The University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, invites applications for a one year, full-time Lecturer or Visiting Assistant Professor of Strategic Communications. The School of Journalism and Mass Media is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The School seeks a dynamic and collaborative faculty member to guide and inspire Advertising and Public Relations majors to success in the strategic communication fields. The successful candidate will be academically prepared and professionally qualified to teach strategic communication principles and writing, advertising campaign strategies, case studies and client-based courses at the undergraduate level. This temporary appointment is for the 19-20 academic year and will not be continued, however, the School may be recruiting for a tenure-track position next academic year and accepting this position would not preclude someone from applying for the permanent position. Visiting Assistant Professors will hold a regular teaching position at another institution, otherwise individuals will be appointed as Lecturers.
- Masters degree in strategic communications or a closely allied field. - Minimum three years of professional experience in a full-time strategic communication position.
- Terminal degree in media, mass communications, strategic communication, or a closely allied field, including Ph.D., M.B.A. or M.F.A. A terminal professional masters degree in a media-related field, defined as a masters degree in an applied media field that is the highest degree offered in that field, recognized by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) and regional university accrediting agencies. - Experience teaching in higher education. - Evidence of at least three years of successful full-time experience teaching with an appropriate scholarly record at the assistant professor level. - Evidence of excellence in research. - More than three years of professional experience in advertising or strategic communication. - Demonstrated professional leadership through mentoring, teaching and contributions to improving the professional field; recognition and awards from national professional organizations, OR, a balance of the academic and professional qualifications above. - Experience with outreach activities. - Experience serving diverse communities or groups traditionally under-represented in academia. - Active participation in professional organizations or associations.
