The College of Arts & Sciences is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented person to join our team. This position requires a proactive, positive individual with strong communication skills who is able to work effectively with visitors, students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders from a wide variety of backgrounds.
The Harris World Ecology Center (HWEC), through a unique set of partnerships, promotes research and training in basic ecology and biodiversity conservation across the globe, and increases public awareness and interest in issues relating to global natural resource conservation. The center is housed within the Department of Biology at the University of Missouri St. Louis, and works closely with The Missouri Botanical Garden and the Saint Louis Zoo. The position provides essential general administrative support that includes a broad range of outreach and fiscal responsibilities for the Whitney R. Harris World Ecology Center in the Department of Biology, including:
Overseeing and/or performing a range of diverse administrative activities for the Harris Center, serving as central liaison for the Center and external stakeholders in the resolution of business and program planning matters
Assisting the Center Director in business and fiscal administration for the Center
Provide support in the processing, documentation and monitoring of unit budgets, funding, grants, contracts, student payroll/employment, travel, billing and/or purchasing
Processing and tracking of student scholarships and awards
Provide oversight of tasks and/or support to the Director including calendar management, office reception, attending and taking minutes at various executive-level meetings and writing original correspondence
Acting as a primary contact for the Harris Center; responding to queries from the greater community and UMSL
Manage the Center's website, newsletter and social media outlets, developing original content, soliciting content from students and updating on a regular basis
Plan and execute the following annual events, including sending invitations, scheduling panelists, creating event flyers and other promotional materials, scheduling facilities, equipment and catering, attending the events and coordinating all other details with event site, external partners, panelists and donors

Serving as the Center's liaison to campus sustainability efforts
Attending community events to offer information Harris Center with the goals of public education, marketing of the Center and the University, and recruiting new students
Assisting with special projects assigned by the Director
Other duties as assigned
High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Superior organizational and process orientation skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook and Word)
A minimum of five years of full-time work experience in a fast-paced and varied environment specializing in administrative support, customer service
Related work experience in an institute of higher education
Familiarity with the use of MyView, PeopleSoft FIN application
Experience with social media marketing and event planning
Salary Hiring Range
$13.27 - $18.00 per hour
