The Ames Laboratory is seeking candidates for the position of Systems Analyst I or II – Cyber Security Analyst. The Ames Laboratory is a Department of Energy national laboratory operated through a contractual agreement with Iowa State University.
The Cyber Security Analyst is part of a team responsible for ensuring Laboratory assets are protected from unauthorized access while helping researchers through regulatory requirements. This position will support security systems and tools, perform analysis of cyber security vulnerabilities and threats, and respond to security incidents. Additional duties include leading risk assessments of vended products, developing assessment metrics, and performing security audits of NIST 800-53 controls. All activities must comply with Department of Energy policies, procedures and requirements in relation to cyber security.
Additional responsibilities for the higher level II analyst position include independent engagement with end users on security issues and leading of security incidents efforts. This role will also do penetration testing and build detection mechanisms.
The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral). The ability to work independently or as a member of a team on multiple, simultaneous projects is important to success in this position. The ability to interpret and apply complex technical documentation is required. Excellent problem solving, time management, and project management skills are necessary for success in this position.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, MIS, or IT-related degree
Extensive knowledge of security controls and understanding of industry best practices and risk frameworks
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of data encryption technologies
Experience with intrusion detection systems
Experience with Splunk
Demonstrated working knowledge of security incident diagnosis, system vulnerabilities, penetration testing, security analysis tools, and system logging
Demonstrated technical experience in computer and network security analysis and incident response.
