UWMC Nutrition department has an outstanding opportunity for a part time (32 hours per week), day shift, Outpatient Registered Dietitian 2 position. The Outpatient Registered Dietitian 2 position in Medical Specialties Clinic at the University of Washington Medical Center is responsible for assessing the nutritional status of and developing evidence-based nutrition care plans for patients impacted by liver, kidney, and lung disease. The position requires understanding the role of diet in both chronic disease and acute illness; experience with alternative feeding modalities such as TPN and Tube feeding; and maintaining current knowledge of best practices in nutrition care. He/she is responsible for providing patient education; facilitating communication between other members of the Food and Nutrition Department and healthcare teams; and working with UW interns and students.RESPONSIBILITIES:Design evidence-based nutrition care plans for high acuity outpatient population based on nutrition diagnosis and as outlined by departmental standards of care protocols and policies.Perform Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and apply AND/ASPEN malnutrition criteria to assess risk for surgery.Provide ongoing evaluation and monitoring of patients in accordance with the medical teams by documenting patient progression toward meeting prescribed goals in the electronic medical record, communicating with other members of the healthcare team, and attending patient conferences.Provide recommendations for nutrition support. This includes appropriate recommendations for diet prescriptions as well as for tube feeding and TPN.Provide effective nutrition education to patients and their care providers taking into consideration their learning abilities, readiness to learn, and cultural beliefs. Actively participate in interdisciplinary care and process improvement teams. Maintain current clinical knowledge of best practices for nutrition and actively participate in the process of developing and reevaluating standards of care protocols.Precept dietetic interns and UW Nutrition Graduate students.Model UW Medicine service culture guidelines and exemplify UW Medicine Patients are First philosophy.Position the Nutrition Department to exceed expectations of the medical/surgical teams by developing rapport with physicians, nurse managers, clinic managers and other members of the patient care teams.Champion the departmental wellness initiative by participating in taste-testing; contributing to internet/intranet site; and promoting the efforts of patient food services and retail operations throughout the organization.This position requires the advanced understanding of the nutrition needs for patients who have chronic diseases such as ESRD, ESLD, pulmonary diseases, and Cystic Fibrosis, and who have had or are waiting for a solid organ transplant.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's Degree with major in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition or Food Service Administration; completion of American Dietetic Association approved dietetic education program; Registered Dietitian status; 24 months recent full-time experience as an R.D. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
