Reporting to the Dean and as part of the Leadership Cabinet, the Assistant Director of Operations works independently, exercising a high level of judgment and discretion in performing a wide range of administrative, operational and financial support for the Schmid College of Science & Technology. Directly supervises administrative staff and is responsible for the recruitment, development, management and evaluation of staff. Oversees the hiring of academic personnel including faculty, post-docs, researchers, staff and student employees. Serves as central information resource, college liaison and contact for university departments. Serves as principal budget officer for Schmid College. Plans, directs and prioritizes administrative activities of the college.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination in education and experience.
Minimum of five years' experience in providing administrative, operational and financial management.
Proven experience in all phases of the budgetary process, including experience with the development of an annual budget.
Experience in interpretation, application and compliance with financial policies and regulations
Ability to learn, understand and interpret grant and contract requirements, uniform guidance, and apply them appropriately.
Proven ability to supervise, train and evaluate employees, to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
Supervisory skills to oversee, train and mentor employees
Proven ability to promote team building and development.
Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both within and outside the University.
Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare, proofread and edit, clear, concise and grammatically correct business correspondence, reports and other documents.
Ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously mixing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands.
Proven ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
Analytical skills to research, collect, organize, and present findings; develop information in a concise, logical, and timely manner and provide sound recommendations.
