Work Schedule: Regular: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Summer: Monday-Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Under the general supervision of the assistant director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the incumbent will provide comprehensive support services to a diverse student population including pre-admission advising, academic advising, personal and career counseling and financial aid guidance.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Incumbent will counsel students in regards to academic progress and be proactive in providing interventions and making appropriate referrals to campus resources.
Incumbent will assists in various aspects of EOP student admissions including, but not limited to, outreach presentations, orientation and review of EOP applicant information for selection of EOP students.
The incumbent will serve as advisor to the EOP Alumni Chapter and be responsible for coordinating the annual EOP Graduate Recognition Ceremony and annual alumni fundraising campaign.
Incumbent will also be responsible for initiating, developing and collaborating with other constituents on EOP alumni efforts.
The incumbent will be responsible for advertising, recording and maintaining EOP scholarship records.
The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting in the coordination of the Summer Bridge counseling, service learning and student development components and serve as a Summer Bridge counselor during the EOP Summer Bridge program. In addition, the incumbent will participate in recruitment/outreach efforts to high schools.
Responsible for collecting, organizing, creating and submitting quarterly and/or annual reports summarizing efforts that include data and recommendations and any other ad hoc reports requested by EOP Assistant Director and EOP Director.
The incumbent will be relied upon to provide insight, direction and recommendations to unique and sometimes sensitive issues, and is expected to independently and collaboratively resolve complex problems through the use of highly effective communication skills.
The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Education & Experience: Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in the Behavioral Sciences, Psychology or Social Work, or a related field AND three years of progressively responsible professional experience in a student services program.
A Master's degree is desired. A Master's degree in School Counseling, Clinical Counseling or Educational Psychology or a directly related field is preferred.
Upper division or graduate course work in individual and group counseling, career counseling and conflict resolution is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Applicants must have knowledge of and strict adherence to one of the nationally recognized counselor code of ethics, including the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), American Counseling Association (ACA), or the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), depending on their educational field.
Adaptability and aptitude for solution-oriented problem solving that promotes student success.
Knowledge of professional counseling theories and techniques is desired.
Applicants must have the ability to write clear and concise reports, along with the ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; troubleshoot problems
The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse constituencies including administrators, faculty, parents, staff and students; and the ability to motivate students in a diverse multicultural setting.
Incumbent will need to be able to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy and discretion.
Other required skills include excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Applicants must have experience in collecting, analyzing and evaluating data, as well as making verbal and written presentations regarding their assessment of the data collected.
Experience in fundraising, and event planning is preferred as this is considered a specialized skill.
Early morning, evening or weekend hours may be required, as needed to travel, participate in program events/activities.
