Teaching responsibilities may include introductory biology for majors or non-majors, plant-related electives, or other courses in the candidate's specialty. Research obligations are not a requirement for this position.
Service will include maintaining the approximately 2,200 square-foot greenhouse space, which is being renovated to update utilities. It is currently a blank slate, and the manager will have significant discretion in designing displays and selecting the specimens to be planted. The greenhouse is used for course and research projects and in outreach events. This is an exciting time in Radford University's Department of Biology. We recently committed ourselves formally to the ideals of the Vision & Change report, and will work over the coming years to better align our curriculum and instruction with those ideals. In 2017 we were awarded a five-year Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence grant to use project-based learning to improve student retention and inclusion in STEM at Radford, and we have also been chosen to participate in the Council on Undergraduate Research Transformations project to revise our curriculum to enhance course-based research opportunities for all students. Minimum required qualifications include a Master's in biology or a related field, completed before the start date.
Previous experience teaching undergraduates and in greenhouse management or horticulture is preferred.
