Position Summary: The Extension Educator will provide overall leadership and organization for multi-county Extension Agriculture (50%), Food Systems (30%), provide technical support for the 4-H Youth Development (10%) program in Blaine and surrounding counties (10%) and serve as County Chair for the UI Blaine County Extension Office. The Educator will provide assistance in university outreach where appropriate.
As County Chair for the Blaine County Extension office a $2,000 stipend will be provided to compensate for administrative work this involves.
Masters degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to Production Agriculture, Agronomy, Food Systems, Agricultural and Extension Education, or closely related discipline (the required degree must be completed by the date of hire). Ability to organize and work with people. Computer literacy and good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to teach and lead group problem-solving and decision-making. Competence in using technology for program delivery, record keeping and reporting, and team-based communications. Ability to provide organizational structure and support for a variety of individuals and groups. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and able to travel and participate in evening and weekend programs.
Three years of relevant experience working with Extension Education or demonstrated ability and skill in plant science, farm management, soil science or food systems (relevant experience acquired within the last 5 years preferred). Ability to work well in a team and provide effective instruction, support, marketing and promotion for Extension programs. Ability to adapt research materials for effective oral and written presentations. Experience in disseminating results through scholarly outlets. Demonstrated skills in organization and management. Previous experience working with underserved, un-served and minority audiences. Supervisory experience and proven ability to lead and mentor others. Knowledge of Hispanic culture and ability to communicate in Spanish, both orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Given the requirements of this position there will be a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and working conditions. Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move up to 25-50 pounds Must provide own transportation and have the ability to travel to multiple work sites.
