Summary of Duties: This Scientific Laboratory Manager position is in the Tissue Imaging and Proteomics Laboratory (TIPL), directed by David R. Gang, and housed in the Veterinary Biomedical Research Building, Washington State University. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for day to day operation of the TIPL. This individual will oversee maintenance and operation of a suite of instruments (modern mass spectrometers) used to investigate research questions related to the biological, agricultural and life sciences, and the application of these instruments in mass spectrometry-based techniques (nanoLC-MS, nanoLC-MS/MS, GeLC-MS/MS, MALDI-MS, gel electrophoresis-based protein identification, high resolution MS analysis, etc.). In addition, this position will be responsible for performing a variety of experimental laboratory procedures associated with tissue imaging and proteomics (and lipidomics/metabolomic) experiments in the biological, agricultural and life sciences.
The Laboratory Manager will also interface with WSU and community researchers and will coordinate receipt of samples, analyze data and interpret results, generate reports describing the results, and participate in education and outreach efforts with the WSU community. This position will manage the research laboratory equipment and oversee its use in tissue imaging and proteomics research, as well as lipidomics and metabolomics research.
Technical expertise and theoretical knowledge is required in the following areas: Chromatographic techniques; Mass spectrometry-based analytical technologies; 2D gel electrophoresis; General biochemical methods; Proteomics, lipidomics and/or metabolomics research.
Required Qualifications: A Bachelors degree in an appropriate related scientific discipline and four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience which has included at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
