This position is a lead Service Desk role, providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 support of hardware and software. This role is also responsible for supervision, direction, and training of junior technicians and student assistants.This position is primarily responsible for successfully supporting the client environment and services that are crucial to business continuity and the Department mission. These services are critical to a large number of external clients and to the UW Medicine's multi-lateral academic, administrative, and research mission. In this Senior Computer Specialist role, the incumbent engages in basic to high level technical work, consults with users, provides purchasing guidance, instigates process improvement, and provides direction to subordinates. The ideal candidate will have deep technical skills across a broad technical knowledge base, and a strong aptitude for leadership through example.This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing IT systems that support critical patient care and scientific research activities. Failure of these systems has a direct negative effect on the Department's ability to do business. A security failure can directly harm the University's systems and reputation.Duties and ResponsibilitiesTier 1 and Tier 2 Technical SupportProvides 1st and 2nd tier support for ongoing operations. Documents, tracks, and coordinates support requests received via telephone, online application, email and in-person. Participates as a subject matter expert in the support team, as needed, and follows up on customer requests within requested timelines. Ensures satisfaction of customers and follows norms for handling change requests, support requests, and incidents. Act as a leader and provide direction to junior technicians and student assistants.Management and Project ManagementManages projects and/or associated tasks in support of compliance and business improvement as assigned by the IT Operations Manager. Ensures quality project deliverables and outcomes. Assists with Service Desk management, service levels, and service level compliance. Responsible for management and training of junior level Service Desk technicians and Student Assistants. Also responsible for documentation and maintenance of the Service Desk Knowledge Database.Security ComplianceAssists the IT Operations Manager in compliance with state and federal Information Technology regulations. Develops and maintains the required knowledge to implement and enforce directives as mandated by HIPAA and UW Medicine security policy. Consults with users and provides guidance to ensure UW Medicine Security Compliance.Continuing EducationStays current on emerging technologies by reading industry publications, attending seminars and classes, developing relationship with vendors and peers, evaluating software and products.
