The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine and pathology. The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift SOFTWARE ENGINEER . This individual will provide analytical and operational support for a state-of-the art clinical laboratory performing cutting edge molecular diagnostic clinical assays. The position will be responsible for developing and maintaining the computational (bioinformatics) pipelines, as well as analyzing data for development, quality control/assurance purposes. Efforts will be directed to ensure reliable, high quality clinical testing, regulatory compliance, and development of new assays. This position will work closely with faculty members and staff, and collaborate with other Senior Computer Specialists and Software Engineers in the department as needed to achieve goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES Develop Next-Generation Sequencing data analysis software and pipelines
Develop, debug and maintain software for bioinformatic pipelines and analyses
Execute data analysis applications to support clinical testing
Create new platforms for tests in development
Adapt existing pipelines to new instrumentation and testing platforms
Suggest technical fixes and code improvements
Troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to data analysis
Suggest pipeline configuration improvements
Optimize and parallelized data analysis pipelines Contribute to design and construction of applications and databases for efficient laboratory workflow and data management
Create new SQL databases, maintain existing databases
Design and construction of web-based decision support tools providing interpretive information for health care providers.
Integrate data from the laboratory instruments, clinical laboratory, and analytical pipelines. Infrastructure and data management
Evaluate and install applications for use in pipelines
Assist with data management, backup, and archiving
Update laboratory record-keeping applications
Organize data for analysis and visualization
Research new bioinformatic tools for evaluation and implementation
REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in BioInformatics, Computer Science or other related disciplines AND 4-5 years of bioinformatics research, advanced study, data analysis pipeline development and/or similar relatable experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
DESIRED Basic understanding of molecular biological concepts, skills in LINUX/UNIX system administration, fluency in SQL, experience with cloud computing services, experience with molecular diagnostics
